Terms of Service
Last updated: 13 July 2026
Draft for review.
This document has not yet been reviewed by a solicitor. It is provided as a working draft only. Solicitor to confirm whether UK service-provider rules require publishing a geographic address and, if so, the best way to satisfy that without a personal address (e.g. a virtual office).
These terms govern access to and use of PressPug, a media contact discovery platform for public relations professionals, operated by Robb Dewey, trading as PressPug ("PressPug", "we", "us" or "our"). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. The service
PressPug is a subscription database of media contacts, journalists, podcasters, bloggers and newsletter writers, intended to help our customers plan and carry out legitimate public relations outreach. We provide tools to search for contacts relevant to a story or topic, verify email addresses, save contacts to lists, look up the author of a published article, and track resulting media coverage.
The service is provided on a software-as-a-service basis. We may add, change or remove features from time to time, and we'll make reasonable efforts to tell customers about changes that materially reduce what's included in their plan.
PressPug is a tool for finding and managing contact information. We are not a PR agency, we do not write or send pitches on your behalf, and we are not a party to any outreach you carry out using data obtained through the service.
2. Account eligibility
PressPug is a business-to-business service. It is intended for use by organisations and individuals carrying out professional public relations, marketing or communications work, not for personal or consumer use. By registering you confirm that you are using the service for business purposes.
- You must be at least 18 years old to hold an account.
- One account is permitted per organisation, with additional named users (seats) added according to the limits of your plan. Accounts, logins and seats must not be shared beyond your organisation's own paid seats.
- You're responsible for the accuracy of the information you give us when registering, and for keeping your login credentials secure.
- You're responsible for all activity that takes place under your account, including activity by other users at your organisation.
3. Payment, credits and billing
PressPug is a paid service. There is no free tier; access requires an active paid subscription on one of our published plans (Solo, Studio, Agency or Scale). Fees are shown on our pricing page and are exclusive of VAT unless stated otherwise.
How credits work. Each subscription plan grants a monthly allowance of credits. Credits are spent on specific actions within the service, including: running a search of the database (a flat fee per search), running a live web search (a premium fee, shown to you before you run it), verifying an email address, and looking up the author of an article by URL. Contacts returned in your search results are charged per contact once the results are delivered to you; contacts you've already paid for are not charged again when they come up in later database searches, while live web searches charge for every contact delivered, including repeats, to reflect the fresh work involved. Saving and organising contacts into lists does not cost credits. Exact credit costs for each action are shown in the product before you confirm it.
Credits are refreshed at the start of each billing cycle in line with your plan. Unused credits expire at the end of the billing cycle in which they were granted and do not roll over, except where we state otherwise for a specific plan or promotion. Credits that have already been spent are not refundable, except where a result is confirmed incorrect under our data accuracy terms below.
Subscriptions renew automatically each billing period until cancelled. If a renewal payment fails, we'll attempt to notify you and may retry the charge; if payment isn't resolved within a reasonable period, access to the service may be suspended until your account is brought current. Cancelling your subscription stops future renewals but does not entitle you to a refund of fees already paid for the current period.
We may change our prices or plan structure from time to time. We'll give existing customers advance notice of any price increase before it takes effect on their account.
4. Acceptable use
You agree that you will not, and will not permit anyone else to:
- Use contact data obtained through PressPug to send unsolicited bulk or spam messages, or for any outreach that isn't genuine, individually relevant public relations or media communication.
- Use the service, or any data obtained through it, in a way that breaches UK GDPR, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), the US CAN-SPAM Act, or any other applicable data protection or electronic marketing law that governs your outreach. You are responsible for your own compliance as the sender of any communications you make using data from PressPug.
- Resell, sublicense, redistribute, publish or otherwise make available our database, or any substantial extract of it, to any third party.
- Scrape, crawl, systematically download, or use automated tools to extract data from the service beyond normal use of the features we provide.
- Share account logins or credits across organisations, or use one account to provide services to third parties who are not your organisation's own staff.
- Attempt to circumvent rate limits, credit metering, or other technical controls we apply to the service.
We enforce reasonable rate limits on searches and other actions to keep the service fair and reliable for all customers. We may suspend or restrict accounts that we reasonably believe are breaching this section.
5. Data accuracy and verification
Journalist and media contact records in PressPug are built and maintained from publicly available sources, such as published bylines, public outlet staff pages and public feeds, and are refreshed on an ongoing basis. Roles, outlets and contact details change frequently in the media industry, and despite our ongoing verification processes we cannot guarantee that every record is current or that every email address will be deliverable at the time you use it.
Where we identify or you report a specific contact record that is confirmed incorrect (for example, a verified email that hard-bounces, or a person confirmed to have left the outlet shown), we will correct or remove that record and, in line with our published credit-refund rules made available in the product, refund the credit spent on that specific result. This is our sole remedy for data inaccuracy and does not extend to general dissatisfaction with search relevance or response rates from your own outreach.
6. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the service, with notice where reasonably practicable, if: your payment fails and isn't resolved within a reasonable period, we reasonably believe you've breached these terms (including the acceptable use section above), your use of the service creates legal or security risk for us or other customers, or we receive a valid legal request requiring us to do so.
You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. On termination for any reason, your right to access the service ends, though obligations that by their nature should survive (including payment obligations for periods already used, and the limitation of liability below) will continue to apply.
7. Limitation of liability
PressPug is provided for business use, and these terms are between businesses. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Subject to the paragraph above, our total liability to you arising out of or in connection with these terms or your use of the service, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, is limited to the total fees you paid to us in the 12 months immediately before the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, including loss of profits, loss of business, or loss of goodwill, arising from your use of the service or from outreach you carry out using data obtained through it.
8. General terms
These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, make up the entire agreement between you and PressPug regarding the service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply.
We may update these terms from time to time to reflect changes to the service or to legal requirements. Where a change is material, we'll give existing customers reasonable notice before it takes effect. Continued use of the service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer or data protection rights that cannot be excluded by contract.
Notices and contact. Questions about these terms, and any general or legal notices, should be sent by email to [email protected]. Email is our contact channel for the service.
